Turkey vocalizations vs coyote densities

15 -20 years ago any hunter could enter the woods and hear turkeys gobblin...My theory is  that area turkeys have been slowly invaded by predators reacting to their calls....I think the turkeys have slowly became less vocal because of the coyote reacting to calls and gobbles...thoughts?

the worst part of finding that kill was to see the beard layin there..i woulda rather not known..however its just one more obstical in the trials and tribulations of turkey hunting..makes deer hunting seem like a breeze..

I totally agree on all acounts however hunting is also an evolution in my eyes..good scouting and patternizations are tactics we all have come to learn but keep hope alive..its only the start of the second week..theyre only turkeys and they will slip up given the right circumstances..just look at tom..even a squirrel gets a nut..haha..sorry tom thats what you get for sendin me that pic on opening day at 730 am..good job buddy but enjoy it while it lasts..mwahahaha

I agree with all of it!Take Randy's theory a little furthur.Because the turkey population has grown so much,do toms need to be as vocal to find a willing hen?I am sure that turkeys are being educated on the coyotes hunting stratagies.

Yep, but i'm not seeing as many hens either..Sure, a higher Red Fox poulation has a impact on nest and chick survival, but reds dont usually target adults. Coyotes do..... A lost hen or gobbler searching for a mate spells dinner for a coyote

Scott there is no question that predators are having a huge impact on our turkey population. I also think that one of the reasons it is getting harder to hear or see a wild turkey is that these days the turkey hunting population has doubled or even tripled. Once a turkey hunter makes a mistake and "educates" the turkeys they shut up..
